Part Time Hair Dressing
About the Part Time Course
Twenty-Four Months (24) of Formal and Informal Training. Formal Hours are College Hours and Informal Hours are Workplace Hours
Suitable for Learners who are employed full time in the Hairdressing Industry
The minimum requirement for a Part Time Learner is:
- Learners must be in possession of at least a Grade 9 Certificate and turn 16 Years old in the year of enrollment
- Be employed Full Time in the Hairdressing Industry
Twenty-Four Months (24) at The Academy for One Day per week
- Class Time between 09H00 and 16H30 once a week only
- This training will cover the Formal Hours of the Qualification
Intakes
- January JANUARY REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN!
The Workplace Hours are completed during this two year period
- This component is for making up your Informal Hours needed towards the Full Qualification
- Learners will have to work Full Time in the Salon
- Assessments take place at The Academy during the two-year period and at regular intervals
After you have accumulated sufficient hours from both The Academy and Full Time Work, you may apply for your Trade Test at the Services SETA
National Qualification
The Qualification falls under the Further Education and Training (FET) Band of the Department of Education (DoE)
- FET consists of Level 2, 3 and 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)
- The Qualification consists of SAQA ID Numbers 65750, 65749, 65729
- The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) approves Qualifications on the NQF

The Hairdressing Qualification is approved by SAQA but quality assured by the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (SSETA)
- The SSETA will issue you with a National Certificate once you have successfully completed the Trade Test
- The Trade Test Certificate from the SSETA is the only route you can take to become a Qualified Hairdresser in South Africa
- You may only apply for your Trade Test once you have successfully completed your College Hours with Hair and Image Institute and your Workplace Hours in a Hair Salon
International Recognition
The National Qualification (Trade Test Certificate) that is awarded to you by the Services SETA is recognised in:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Canada
- England
- European Union
The Hairdressing National Trade Test Certificate is the only Hairdressing Qualification in South Africa that is recognised by these countries. The International Professional Standards Network (IPSN) is an agreement between the above countries and South Africa whereby the members of IPSN agree to formally recognise each country's trade recognition process
When applying for a hairdressing position in any one of these above countries, your Qualification will be accepted without further assessment
Part Time Fees for the 2012 Enrolment
A Non-Refundable Deposit of R12 000 to secure student placement. Limited seats available
Monthly Payment works out to R1 791.67 over 24 months
Your Academy Fees will include the following:
- The Full Qualification
- Preparation for your Trade Test with the Services SETA

- All Exam Fees
Your Academy Fees will exclude the following:
- All your own stationary requirements such as Lever Arch Files, Exam Pads, Pens etc.
- Lost or stolen equipment / learning material will be for your own account
- All salon products used on your self or your models, such as hair colour and shampoo. Models settle their own accounts
